Dr. Marc Borner

Dipl.Psych., M.A.

I am a philosophy of mind researcher, clinical psychologist and start-up entrepreneur. I love diversity - its challenges and beauty. I am passionate about research and the transgression beyond current scientific borders. My two major fields of investigation are pre-reflective self-consciousness and conspiracy theories.  I am very enthusiastic about cross scientific research and love to get inspired from methods and investigations from various fields.

Currently I am a lecturer for Philosophy at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany as well as a visiting scholar at the department of psychiatry at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany.

PHILOSOPHY

My current research focuses on these topics:
  • Animal-Consciousness
  • Patterns of Narcissism, Anxiety and Delusions in Conspiracy-Theories
  • Dreaming and Pre-Reflective Self-Consciousness
  • Hegel and Pre-Reflective Self-Consciousness

 PSYCHOLOGY

My background lies not just in Philosophy but also in Psychology, Neuro-Science and Bio-Chemistry.

I am very grateful to have been funded with a scholarship during my studies and PhD by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), which also made it possible to study at the Brain&Creativity Institute with Antonio Damasio at USC, LA.

To me psychology is not just the science of experience, behavior and cognition - it is a science which can provide useful tools for many other fields of investigation. It is deeply rooted in the understanding of neuro-cognitive processes.

And especially in clinical psychology we can learn not just about deviations from what is considered "normal", but about the diversification and borders of cognitive, experiential and behavioral processes.

DIVERSITY

Diversity is not a loss but a strength from which we can grow and learn from one another.

Philosophy and psychology also grow if you give back academical research to society. One of such possibilities I see in philosophy for children, which is a matter of heart to me. And I am grateful that I could work together witch smart children at numerous schools in the Rhine-Main-area. I had also worked as clinical psychologist for unaccompanied young refugees near Berlin and it had taught me a lot about modesty and diversity. I also got involved on the selection panel for new scholarships for the German National Academic Foundation as well as unsalaried work for the IHK Frankfurt wholesale committee  to create a better economical environment built upon sustainability.
